Jesse graduated from Warren Wilson College in 2003 with a degree in Anthropology during which time he began studying the Afro-Brazilian art form of Capoeira Angola. Jesse furthered his knowledge of the traditional artform by studying in Brazil and meeting various capoeira Masters. Following graduation, Jesse began to instruct capoeira in the Asheville capoeira group, conduct outreach events and work with others to create a strong capoeira community in Asheville NC. In 2006 Jesse began training with Mestre Pe de Chumbo and chose to join his current group, Centro Esportivo de Capoeira Angola (CECA). In 2009 Jesse was graduated in the presence of various capoeira Mestres as a Trenel (teacher) in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Currently, Jesse is studying for his MSW at Washington University in St Louis in efforts to combine his love of capoeira and his passion for social justice. In addition to pursuing a degree in Social Work, Jesse currently teaches Capoeira Angola in St Louis. The Asheville capoeira group is now taught by Stefan Bonitz and Jash Feildstien, Jesse will be returing to Asheville in 2010.
