Covering the gamut of Mountain Sports, the Mountain Sports Festival has something for pros, amateurs, and novices alike. With an impressive list of races, extreme sports competitions, and demonstrations to choose from in sports such as running, cycling, kayaking, canoeing, and skateboarding you won't find a dull moment during this three day festival, occurring in May each year in Asheville, the outdoor sports capitol of the Southeast.

Each year, West Asheville rejoices its ongoing transformation into a "lively enclave of entrepreneurs, artists and young families with a party thrown in its honor." Westfest features an array of pallet tantalizing food and drink, music, and special fun for children of all ages, not to mention interactive booths. There is even the Wachovia 5k Fun Run, martial arts demonstrations, and karaoke...as if the rest wasn’t enough.

Pack Square Park comes alive on the third Friday of each month June thorough September for Downtown After Five, Downtown Asheville's free concert series. Come out and join the crowd that swells to over 3000 to hear a local favorite open for one of the Southeast's most popular jazz, rock, blues, funk and other family oriented bands. If your in downtown between 5-9pm on a third Friday in the summer, you won't be able to miss the sounds coming from the stage in Pack Square, and if your felling like dancing or just hanging out then make Downtown After Five part your evening.

Grab your fiddle or your clogging shoes and make your way to Pack Square Park for Shindig on the Green. The music and dance traditions of Southern Appalachia will be on full display come sundown most Saturdays during July and August. If watching the sunset over downtown Asheville while listening to Bluegrass, a local storyteller, or watching some good old mountain clogging sounds like your cup of tea then join the Shindig.
