Each year the Mountain Sports Festival provides an impressive line up of outdoor competitions and entertainment to entice any pro or amateur athlete to test themselves in mountain sports. Besides competition, athletes and spectators alike will find plenty of action at the Festival Village at Carrier Park located along the French Broad River in Asheville, North Carolina.

Located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Appalachians, the Asheville area is transformed into multiple outdoor venues for a long list of competitive events coupled with entertainment, demos and exhibitors. Most sports festivals offer competition, but few add the mountainous terrain of Western, NC to take it up a notch for serious challenge and endurance. The Festival Village – Entertainment, Food, Demos, Exhibits and More

The events are spread out around Asheville, but the Festival Village is the focal point of the Mountain Sports Festival, offering a wide variety of exhibitors showing off the latest gear, hot tricks, demos and clinics. A full line up of live entertainment keeps the Festival Village Main Stage hopping all weekend long, while also providing a great assortment of food and drink.

When not out at the races, the Festival Village is the place to be along the scenic French Broad River in West Asheville. The Village will be packed with outdoor adventure gear exhibitors showing off their wares while demonstrating all the latest equipment with tips and techniques.

The Festival Village Main Stage will be going solid, beginning Friday night and through until Sunday afternoon with a broad mix of live music featuring local and national acts.

Mountain Sports Festival 2008 Events Overview

Competitions in 2008 take place throughout the weekend beginning with Rock-2-Rock Trail Run in Black Mountain and the Wild Wing Disc Golf Variety Show at Festival Village showcasing some of the best disc golf tricks and shots. Followed by the track-cycling race at Festival Village. Things heat up on Saturday with a full schedule of high-energy competition highlighted by the Mountain Disc Golf Experience, Black Dome Adventure Race, the Wheel Ride for Food Metric and ½ Metric Century Rides, Mountain Uni-cycling race, Mission Hospital’s Sunset Stampede and Wondergirl 5k, Dodgeball Tournament and the Black Dome MSF Climbing Competition. By Sunday, the events are still in high gear with day two of the Mountain Disc Golf Experience, Sand Volleyball Tournament, Dodgeball Competition, and the Ultimate Frisbee Clinic.

Endless Fun for Kids in the Merrell Kids Zone

The adventure is not just limited to the adult athlete - kids get to try their skills in a variety of fun races and competitions in the Merrell Kids Zone. There are lots of free clinic for kids including cycling, skateboarding, hula hooping, disc golf, basketball, and volleyball. Many races offer young athlete categories, or kids can put themselves to the test in the Black Dome Kid’s Climbing Competition on Friday. The Iron Kid Competition will be in Festival Village throughout the weekend and is free!

Volunteers Needed

Also, volunteers will be needed throughout the weekend to help make Mountain Sports Festival a great experience for all who attend. Come experience the festival from inside and out while helping in all areas of event operations. Volunteers who work a minimum of one, four-hour shift will receive a free MSF t-shirt, a beverage voucher and volunteer parking. For more information, contact leah@mountainsportsfestival.com
