Renting Apartments, Houses and Condos in Asheville & Western NC
Living and Renting in Asheville
- Living and Renting in Asheville and Western North Carolina can be both exciting and very worthwhile. Asheville offers a wide variety of rentals to suit every taste. From the higher priced condominium downtown to a wide range of apartments to the simple woodsy cabin, living in this exciting city is rewarding.
- Asheville is blessed with a superior quality of life, and residents get to benefit from it.
- However, it is important to realize that finding rental houses, condos, or apartments is difficult because the Asheville renting market is tight. This is especially applicable when looking for a lower cost unit.

Tips For the Prospective Western North Carolina Renter
- In order to prepare yourself for the search, there are important things to consider. These include: Your financial means, your requirements, whether or not you have pets, and the setting you would most enjoy.
- This is an important step and shouldn’t be overlooked or glossed over. It is very important to know your needs. If possible consider the future and what your needs might be. Your needs are your own and therefore vary by individual but most people need to consider proximity to shopping and work at the very least.
- Be prepared to spend some time looking for the ideal situation. In order to find exactly what you want, you may have to consult multiple resources, make many calls, and view prospective locations.

- Never rent a unit without looking at it first! This means really checking it out. You will want to know the condition of the unit, the surrounding area, and the cost of utilities for starters.
- Examine your Rental Contract closely. Be certain to read all the fine print, and that you are satisfied with the details. If you are not, discuss them with your agent or landlord.
- Take the time to think before you sign the lease agreement. Does the place fit your needs or are you settling? Settling can lead to frustration and problems in the future. It is also important to think about your landlord. Is your landlord going to live nearby or do any of his/her relatives live nearby? Are they the type to drop by or do they only come into town once or twice a year? Is your landlord new to renting or has he/she been at it for years? These are questions that should be answered so you have a good idea of what you are getting yourself into.
- Always keep detailed records. This includes (but is not limited to): Payments made, contracts, correspondance with your landlord (mail, email, phone calls w/date+time), bills, and any other pertinent paperwork for your own protection.
- Rental Insurance is a Good Idea. It can help protect you in the event of a catastrophe, and ensure that you have recourse to recoup any losses due to fire, theft, etc. It is also fairly inexpensive.

A List of Places to Begin Your Search in Western North Carolina
These are all good resources but it is important to note that some of the best places to rent can be found through word of mouth. It is always good to inquire with associates, family, and friends to find out if they know of good apartments, houses, or condos.
