Aromatherapy is the practice of using aromatic plant oils, including essential oils, to create beneficial mood changes and even treat specific emotional and physical conditions. Centuries of experience in several cultures have shown that when essential oils are inhaled into the lungs they promote both psychological and physical changes. Not only does the aroma of the natural essential oil stimulate the brain to trigger a reaction, but the natural constituents (naturally occurring chemicals) of the essential oil are drawn into the lungs to create physical benefit. If not done correctly and safely, however, the use of essential oils can also have unpleasant side effect, therefore it is better to consult a professional aroma therapist before treating specific medical conditions.
