The Museum presents lunchtime Art Breaks, a series of gallery talks and presentations designed to inform and engage you in dialogue with members of our curatorial and education departments, docents and special guests. Join an informative member of the Asheville Art Museum's Docents on a guided tour of the exciting exhibition; Cherokee Carvers: Tradition Renewed. Cherokee Carvers: Tradition Renewed examines the work of 15 living Cherokee carvers along with the work of Amanda Crowe, the noted Cherokee carver who taught many of these artists. "Ms. Amanda Crowe was really an inspiration to us. I have always said that she took us under her wing and showed us things, and we went from there...A lot of people tell me that they think my pieces are about to take a step they look so real," said Butch Goings. This exhibition was organized and curated by the Asheville Art Museum. This project is sponsored in part by RTCAR, Cherokee Preservation Foundation, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and Western Carolina University. Additional support provided by Mr. William P. Massey. |
