Part fight, part dance and part game, capoeira is a fun and beautiful activity that features acrobatic movements and traditional African-Brazilian music. The Capoeira Asheville group was founded in 2007 by the Brazilian master Mestre Pe de Chumbo and offers the Asheville community classes, events and performances in the traditional Afro-Brazilian art of capoeira. The group is well known for their engaging dance performances at Prichard Park, their lively demonstrations at Bele Chere, and their spontaneous street performances throughout Asheville. Through classes, performances and outreach the group seeks to promote mental, physical and spiritual well-being while preserving a the traditional cultural art form of Capoeira Angola.
