Black Mountain, NC, March 11, 2009 - This year’s East of Asheville Studio Tour (EAST) begins its fifth season the weekend of May 2nd/3rd, 2009. Hours for the spring tour are Saturday May 2, 10a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday May 3, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. If creativity is the new currency, The EAST of Asheville Studio Tour is a veritable goldmine. With the addition of several new members, 20 studios and 23 artists will open their doors to the public this spring. Participants are some of the top artists and crafters in their field. A variety of media is represented including glass, fiber, clay, metal, photography, painting, woodworking – and more. Located in the mountains and valley just east of Asheville, NC, the drive is beautiful any time of the year. The first weekends of May and October offer seasonal colors along with the opportunity to visit working studios and meet talented artists eager to share their creative endeavors with you. The route extends from the village of Riceville, east through Swannanoa and Black Mountain, and south to the continental divide. Large yellow signs will easily direct you along the way to each artist’s studio. Brochures with detailed maps will be available at the Black Mountain Visitor Center, Black Mountain Center for the Arts, local businesses, and at each artist’s studio.
