Steeped in the tradition of family friendly music festivals like Smilefest, the Asheville Music Jamboree, shortened by many to AMJam, is the perfect festival for families and seasoned festivarians alike. Located in the beautiful Deerfields Music Park just 20 minutes south of Asheville NC, AMJam provides the perfect atmosphere for a weekend full of camping, shopping, and of course hours and hours of great music.

Something for Everyone

At AMJam, family is the name of the game, the youngins are certainly welcome here, in fact any child under 12 gets in free with a parent. A special Kids Zone is available all weekend with activities for the younger campers culminating in a kid’s parade Sunday afternoon.

The great thing about the Asheville Music Jamboree is the spaciousness of the venue, coupled with the absence of massive crowds often associated with outdoor festivals. Deerfields Music Park is filled with ponds to swim, trails to hike, and endless woods and creeks to explore. All of these outdoor activities, paired with two music stages, basically eliminate the ‘human cattle effect’ that comes with trying to navigate through huge crowds. This leads to a sense of home that is lacking at the bigger festivals, where people often feel cramped and packed in with the masses. This atmosphere also leads to a community feeling between the performers and fans which is sometimes lost with larger productions.

For the second year of this festival, AMJam left no stone unturned when creating the lineup. This year marks the return of Asheville’s most fortunate son, Warren Haynes, as Gov’t Mule is headlining the weekend with a set that will rock you hard. Joining The Mule on the bill are roots reggae champions Burning Spear. Ivan Neville is bringing his group Dumpstaphunk to bring what he describes as “some of the nastiest, most serial crushing funk to ever come out of New Orleans and beyond”. Rounding out the headliners are none other than Keller and the Keels performing bluegrass the only way they know how. This ain’t exactly your granddaddy’s bluegrass band. Along with this set, Keller Williams and Larry Keel have been given their own solo sets, so look to hear a lot from these two throughout the weekend.

And remember, you never know who might pop up with an instrument in their hand throughout the weekend. With unexpected surprises around every corner, Asheville Music Jamboree is the premiere summer music and camping event in Western North Carolina.
