WHAT IS 'GREEN'?
The term "Green" can be confusing. It means different things to different people. For some "Green" evokes images of hippies, free love, and tree huggers. For others it means organic, self sufficient, and natural. It becomes even more confusing when you research the word green in the dictionary. It could mean: a color, inexperienced, golf course, not fully ripe, jealous, park, a political party, money, sickly, symbol for the environment.
The Urban Green Partnership provides one of the best definition: Green is the design, commercialization, and use of processes & products that are feasible & economical while: minimizing the risk to human health & the environment and reducing the generation of pollution at the source.
Basically the term "Green" is a main stream marketing tool to get the word out to the general public that it is generically good for the environment and good for people.
The use of the word "Green" is a starting place to promote the concept of sustainability. The EPA defines sustainability as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
So when you hear the word "Green" think sustainability.
