UNC Asheville Kellogg Center

The UNCA Kellogg Center is located between the intersection of South Rugby Road and Broyles Road in Hendersonville, just shy of Horseshoe. The conference center plays host to different musical and aesthetic art events throughout the year. The property the center lies on contains forest and field trails, graced by natural and man made art, allowing its visitors to be visually and physically enlightened, at no cost.
History
The Kellogg Center was originally the summer residence of Kathryn A. Kellogg, who first donated the property to Wake Forest University in 1969. Relics of the residence are viewable and marked with information cards. One such relic is the wading pool, marked by moss covered walls and weather worn stairs, surrounding the bridge that connects the forest and the field trails. Other areas of the homestead are also marked and blend with the new artistic additions.
Art, Natural and Man-Made
There is a magical feel flowing through the trails of the Kellogg center, enhanced by the pieces of art that are scattered about. Rounding the bridge, as the "Fiddle Head Ferns" burst into view, it's almost as if entering another world (see inset picture). Even the benches are art, each piece marked with a placard displaying its title and artist. The wide array of foliage, scattered throughout Western North Carolina, is also well represented here at the Kellogg center. These trees and plants are also marked, with informative signs, giving insight even during each season of the year. Remember, while viewing all this beauty, not to forget to check out "The Bell Mound" located on the forest trail. This piece is interactive, and by pulling up on the centerpiece of the mound, the chime of underground bells can be heard. (This is ok to do, it is the artist who first demonstrated it to me.)
