Update on the Asheville Mural Project Summer 09

The Asheville Mural Project is poised to complete last summer's work on the concrete support piers of the I-240 Bridge downtown. The Lexington Avenue side of the Gateway Mural is estimated to be completed by the end of July, where artists Kurt Thaesler, Steve Lister, and Harper Leich have been working to finish the portion dedicated to the arts in Asheville. Painting is currently well underway, as well as a plan to address the water run-off issue occurring due to the break in the roadway overhead. Read more...

Media Arts Project Launches New Online Directory

The Media Arts Project (MAP) announces an event to celebrate the launch of its new website and online member directory, Thursday, July 23, at 5:30pm at the Flood Gallery in Asheville. Funded by the Asheville HUB, the new directory will foster the development of Western North Carolina's creative economy by promoting the region's diverse and accomplished talent base and providing a resource for WNC media arts professionals to collaborate and connect, both with one another and with opportunities for work. In the weeks leading up to HATCHfest Asheville, which took place around downtown Asheville from April 15th - 19th 2009, I found it difficult to gauge my expectations. I didn't understand the festival, and it wasn't for a lack of effort. Riverside Studios Gallery Show

Riverside Studios, an artist's property and gallery located in Asheville's historic river district, recently opened to the public November 7, 2008 for the city's annual River Arts District Studio Stroll.
