Make Asheville a City of Peace. Ask our City Council to consider resolution calling for de-escalation in Afghanistan

Since we heard that there were plans to surge troops in Afghanistan beginning late in 2009, Peacetown in Asheville has worked to urge our City Council to stand with us for de-escalating the war instead of escalating it. Please help us convince our City Council members that this is a local issue that robs our citizens and our grandchildren of much-needed funds for public services here. Read more...

Make Your Voice Heard!!!!

The big buzz in Asheville over the past few weeks is the effort to get Google to bring the ultra high speed gigabit fiber network to Asheville and put speeds 100x faster than what most people have into every home. This is huge!  Not only from an internet customer perspective but having the Google fiber network of 78,000 homes all tied together at 100x speeds provides the soil for the seeds of innovation. Asheville will realize the fruits of that growth. Read more...

Is it Time for a Third Party?

It's one thing to be born in a ditch in India. It is another to live in one in America. So it is with a two party political system that has us careening from one trench to another, election after election, in a futile search for sincere leadership. Out of that discouragement comes a desperate call for a third party with the potential to get the mumbling majority back on the road to the American Dream. Read more...

Local and State Governments are in Trouble...

Republican Governor Arnold 'The Terminator' Schwarzenegger has a new nickname these days - 'The Debtinator'. One of our favorite screen superheroes has proven to be a major disappointment in his equally fanciful role of pretending to be a conservative Republican in public office. At the forefront of an entertaining but unprincipled parade of RINO's (Republicans in Name Only) betraying America over the past decade, Schwarzenegger has sealed his credentials through a federal rescue request for the beleaguered socialist republic he struggles to manage. The Politics of the Anointed

In Germany during the two World Wars, the allied trade blockade necessitated the creation of ersatz forms of petroleum, coffee, tobacco, and sausage. With rare exception these artificial substitutions were inferior in every way but name and appearance. So it is with most twenty-first century American politicians. Read more...

Is President Obama Trying to Destroy America?

Within the energetic conservative internet community boils a pot dedicated to the belief that Barack Hussein Obama is deliberately destroying America. Conspiracy speculations persist on the authenticity of his citizenship, a murky history with unsavory handlers, and a spiritual foundation more closely akin to Muslim than Christian values. The Conservative Case for Gay Marriage

Thank Goodness for Sheepdogs...

If you have ever wondered what tops America's addiction list, look no further than the word comfort. The Least of These

In the recent parade of homes I was pleased to see that Something for Everyone was a theme. Being first time home buyer, I was thrilled to see I was being considered. Autism: A Perspective

Much has been said and written about autism in the past several years. Autism has become a household word. When I was a resident, over 20 years ago, it was a relatively rare diagnosis, and certainly not a condition that the general public had much awareness of. Now, many of us know of a child with autism either in our own family or our neighbor's or in the community. When a child is not developing like his peers, a parent's first concern today is that he might have autism while simultaneously hoping that he does not. Read more...

How You Look At Life Makes The Difference

Feng Shui for Real Estate, Asheville or Anywhere

Real estate in Western North Carolina is faring better than in many other places nationwide right now. Sales are slower, however, and prices are somewhat lower than they were a year ago. Changes were expected by feng shui practitioners starting in February 2004, when a new 20 year time cycle started. In the long run, it is expected that this period will bring more financial stability in return for work and effort. In the short run, the period change affected every existing building. What may have been a healthy and prosperous building until 2004 might benefit from a feng shui tune-up to improve conditions now. Read more...
