The LAB is Open for Your Mad-scientist Pleasure

The grand opening of Asheville's newest and brewest, The Lexington Avenue Brewery (The LAB), is now open for business! The bar and restaurant opened with a little announcement yesterday afternoon and was welcomed by a fully packed house of beer fans. We were lucky enough to get a sneak-peak on Wednesday evening with some friends and had a beer sampler, though we missed the kitchen by a bit. The menu looks fantastic and we can't wait to eat there. It's nothing fancy, per se, but what is offered is a great mix of gourmet flavors with pub-style food. The grilled four-cheese sandwich and other offerings such as the bratwurst are sure to be a big hit with the beer set. I mean, who doesn't love sausage and beer (except for you veggie-types)? New stuff at Green Man Brewing

On Monday, I dropped by Green Man Brewing, a.k.a. Dirty Jack's to the locals, to try the new Double IPA, The Truth. Lucky for me, Brewer Mike was there, so I could get my beer geek on and chat a bit and let me sample some of the stuff they've got going on at the brewhouse (not Jack of the Wood) for the holidays season. Summertime Equals Beer Time

Beer Happenings Around Asheville

Yesterday we had an awesome time interviewing with Brian Cendrowski of Untamed Beer. (And a shout to his wife and camera person, Nicole.) We splayed out a bunch of rare goodies on the bar, chatted a while (much longer he planned, I think, but I babble), and sampled the new Japanese Baird Shizuoka Natsumikan Ale (tastes like marmalade!), Pisgah Vortex I Triple IPA, and De Stuise Black Albert. Asheville, Land of Op-beer-tunity

In this time of economic uncertainty, there is one constant; people who enjoy libations are certainly going to continue to do so. Even those who are finding it hard to make ends meet still partake in the joy of sharing a pitcher with a friend. One specific group is craft beer enthusiasts. With our current hop crisis and more limited grain resources, beer lovers are coughing up more now for six-packs, pitchers and pints. Here in Asheville, we have not seen a significant shift in the way consumers are delving out cash for the brews they love and will hopefully only see an upswing. Read more...
