Demolishing Old Buildings to Make Way for the New
The view from the Smoky Park Bridge is about to improve greatly - no more "Blue Buildings" at the river's edge. A new sculpture park will take their place in the Wilma Dykeman RiverWay. This latest river improvement is a result of a grant RiverLink received from the Asheville Merchants Association. D. H. Griffin Salvage Company, is the same recycling compnay helped RiverLink recycle 100% of the cement (estimated to be 100,000 tons) at the old EDACO junkyard on Amboy Road that RiverLink acquired in 2007. This time D. H. Griffin is helping to recycle materials and bring down the "Blue Buildings" - located at 115 1/2 to 119 Riverside Drive. Demolition is expected to be completed by Tuesday March 23, 2010. Read more...

The UNCA Kellogg Center is located between the intersection of South Rugby Road and Broyles Road in Hendersonville, just shy of Horseshoe. Asheville Middle School Gets Creative!
RiverLink visited Asheville Middle School this week to do an art lessons with Mrs. Carson's RiverCorps. The children watched a PowerPoint on the French Broad River while brainstorming on what inspires them about the river. After the slide show, the children got to create art focusing on the French Broad River and its watershed. Needless to say, the students generated some great pieces of art. Read more...

Update on the Asheville Mural Project Summer 09
The Asheville Mural Project is poised to complete last summer's work on the concrete support piers of the I-240 Bridge downtown. The Lexington Avenue side of the Gateway Mural is estimated to be completed by the end of July, where artists Kurt Thaesler, Steve Lister, and Harper Leich have been working to finish the portion dedicated to the arts in Asheville. Painting is currently well underway, as well as a plan to address the water run-off issue occurring due to the break in the roadway overhead. Read more...
