TEDxAsheville, Local Version of Ultimate Brain Spa, Gathers Volunteers, Sponsors for 2010 Event
TEDxAsheville, the great-ideas conference that turned away 350 people at its inaugural event in August, returns in 2010. Volunteers and sponsors are wanted for TEDxAsheville 2010, coming next summer with new speakers, new performers and more ideas worth spreading.
Technical advisors, social media aficionados, design, publicity and marketing folks, speaker recommendations, people to serve on committees, and anyone with an interest in spreading great ideas in a community-focused Asheville-centric event are welcome. The first regular meeting for TEDxAsheville 2010, and the new proposed youth-focused event tentatively titled TEDxAsheville Jr, is Monday, October 5, 6-8 p.m. at Locomotivity at 224 Broadway. Meetings continue indefinitely at Locomotivity the first and third Monday of the month.
TEDxAsheville's reach exceeded the end of the conference, with 2009 presenter Andrew P. Jones speaking at TEDx in Beijing in September. And only a few days into its release, Jones' YouTube video of his 2009 talk was the third most watched TEDx video on the TEDxTalks YouTube channel. Since Jones' TEDx appearances in Asheville and China, C-ROADS, the climate simulation tool he demonstrated at TEDxAsheville 2009, has been featured in Nature and the Washington Post.
A TEDxAsheville performer also debuted on the national media stage after performing at TEDx: guitarist Shane Perlowin, who was reviewed in the New York Times Sunday edition for the new CD from his band, Ahleuchatistas.

ABOUT TEDx
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED created a program it calls TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxAsheville, where "x" = an independently organized TED event. At TEDxAsheville, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection within the audience.
The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
TEDxAsheville is a operated under license from TED. It is not being organized by the TED conference, and is an independently organized TED event.
