Short Street Cakes, Asheville's source for all-natural, southern-style cakes, cupcakes, and wedding cakes, introduces its newest venture in baking and community: retailing pies from new local pie company Pies in Disguise! Located at 225 Haywood Road in East-West Asheville, the Cake Shop will now be serving pies, whole and by the slice, in addition to its Cake Menu for walk-in and special-order customers.
Pies in Disguise, owned by baker Eliza Sydney and "hype-man" Ben Herring, will not only be renting the Cake Shop kitchen in off-hours for pie production, but will be retailing their wares at the Cake Shop counter. Short Street Cakes owner Jodi Rhoden has expanded her retail offerings to include pie not only to better serve her bakery customer base, but also to support fellow bakers and entrepreneurs whose stories are similar to hers: big dreamers who are starting their businesses with little financial investment but tremendous passion for their craft.
Pies are available by special order by calling the Cake Shop at 828-505-4822. Thirteen flavors are available with two days' notice, whole pies are $22, slices are $3.95, and more information can be found here:http://shortstreetcakes.blogspot.com/2009/11/cake-loves-pie-introducing-pies-in.html
A Thanksgiving special is also being offered in conjunction with the launch of the Pies at the Cake Shop: receive 10% off your order of $50 or more of Cakes AND Pies during the month of November.
Short Street Cakes believes that everyone should be able to live their dream, and everyone should be able to eat delicious cake and pie. By providing a space for baking and retailing, Short Street Cakes is helping crafters and small market bakers in Asheville live that dream, and helping Asheville community members access a fresher, tastier, more connected cake. (and pie.)
