Second Saturday Artist Market Celebrates Earth Day
The 2nd Saturday Artist Market celebrates the talents and skills of local artists in an intimate venue inside The Rocket Club once a month, from 11am - 5pm. The Market also celebrates community by hosting local organizations in The Community Booth. The Community Booth displays information about neighborhood and area events, and each month an area organization is invited to showcase their programs and events.
Just in time for Earth Day, the guests for the April 10 Market will be the Western North Carolina Alliance, a grassroots environmental organization. Western North Carolina Alliance (WNCA) empowers citizens to be advocates for livable communities and the natural environment of Western North Carolina.
WNCA is the only grassroots environmental advocacy group focused solely on conserving Western North Carolina's natural heritage. Founded in 1982 as a successful citizen response to proposals to prospect for oil and gas reserves on National Forest lands, WNCA has since experienced a number of victories and accomplishments, most recently winning a statewide Community Ties Innovation Award in 2009.
The 2nd Saturday Artist Market opened the 2010 season in popular east-West Asheville music venue The Rocket Club in March, hosting local artists and craftspeople showing their hand made work, including ceramics, jewelry, accessories made of recycled materials, felted dolls, fused glass, stuffed animals, dolls and more.
In addition to the art, the Market now offers food as well. April patrons will have a rare opportunity to enjoy food from Roots Cafe, normally only open Monday - Friday. In addition, 2nd Saturday Artist Market collects canned food and other non-perishables each month for MANNA FoodBank.
The 2nd Saturday Artist Market takes place next on Saturday, April 10 from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm in The Rocket Club, located at 401 Haywood Road in West Asheville.
