Runs Until Pre-Closing Party Dec. 6th, 2008
Riverside Studios, an artist's property and gallery located in Asheville's historic river district, recently opened to the public November 7, 2008 for the city's annual River Arts District Studio Stroll. Owned by sculptor James Richbourg, the gallery is open until December 7, 2008 and features a variety of eclectic mediums created by some of Asheville's most exciting and enthusiastic local talent. The pre-closing celebration, scheduled for Saturday December 6, 2008 from 5 pm to 2:30 am, marks the final weekend of Riverside Studios' current show. Logos and Wedge Brewery Company will provide entertainment and refreshments. During the week Riverside Studios is open from noon until 6pm Wednesday through Sunday.
Riverside Studios is proud to be the home of local artists such as Syprian Harvey, a metal sculptor from Woodfin who designed the white installation room, and Ilsa Ananda Door, a performance sculptor creating the work Return of Free Water. Harvey is based in nearby Woodfin and Door in the Wedge. Door is also the co-founder of the progressive artist collective, Intuitive Arts Multimedia. Art lovers and collectors alike are invited to visit Riverside Studios to witness the creation of Door's Return of Free Water, which is being constructed live in the gallery out of recycled materials resembling a tree. Door's performances will be scheduled on Thursdays from 3-7 PM, Fridays 12-4 PM, Saturdays 2-6 PM, and Wednesday December 3 from 1-5 PM. Call the gallery for more information about the sculpture closing on December 7 and gallery hours for Thanksgiving week.
Sculptor James Richbourg, owner of Riverside Studios, works in both clay and metal and purchased the property as a studio, gallery and 2,600 square foot event space. Built in 1883, the multi-faceted gallery has been established to primarily promote River Arts District talent, as well as local and international artists. The current exhibit provides an opportunity to showcase and encourage inter-artist and public networking, Asheville arts and contemporary works.
Richbourg met Sean Buckley, manager and curator of Riverside Studios gallery, in June. Buckley is a recent graduate of the School of Art Institute in Chicago and works with the mediums of sculpture and multi-media installations. He currently creates work under the name Manotaur Productions. For more information about Riverside Studios visit http://riversidestudiosgallery.blogspot.com or call Sean Buckley at (312) 520-9229.
