Our VOICE 10th Annual Survivors Art Show Seeking Works of Art
Our VOICE, Inc., formerly the Rape Crisis Center is now calling for pieces for its annual "Survivors Art Show". The deadline to enter is March 1st. The show will be held in April which is Sexual Abuse Awareness Month (SAAM). There are two submission categories: the "Survivors Art Section", and the category for submissions to the auction. The "Survivors Art Section: Art as a medium for encouraging wounds to heal and spirits to persevere." will be reviewed and displayed as the main installation. Pieces donated to Our VOICE will be entered into the silent auction and all proceeds will go to support the services and programs of Our VOICE.
The exhibit provides a safe atmosphere for survivors and their allies to express and empower themselves by spreading community awareness and advocating for the prevention of sexual assault and rape. This is the 10th anniversary of the art show, an achievement that shows how far Our VOICE has come. The agency was founded as an all-volunteer grassroots organization and remained underground until 1982 when it received non-profit status and the first employee was hired. Now, 30 years and considerable growth later, Our VOICE employs seven paid staff and over 30 volunteers. No longer a secretive, underground agency, instead, they are very visible in the community and attempt to inform as many people as possible about their services and the issue of sexual violence.
In the pursuit of a community that is free of sexual violence, Our VOICE serves all individuals in Buncombe County affected by sexual assault and abuse, through counseling, advocacy and education. Formerly the Rape Crisis Center, this non-profit crisis intervention agency serves victims of sexual violence, age 13 through adult.
