No High-Rise in front of the Basilica!

One of the most beautiful buildings in Asheville celebrates its 100th birthday this year.
The historic Basilica of St. Lawrence was built in 1909, and sits at the entrance to downtown.
The City of Asheville is now negotiating with the McKibbon Hotel Group to sell them the land in front of the Basilica.
They want to build a seven-story luxury hotel, just fifty paces from the church's front door.
So our historic church is faced with a crisis, and is asking for help from all who hear this plea.
Basilica spokesman Bud Hansbury said,
"The Basilica needs your help. Its beauty has graced Asheville for a hundred years. Now developers intend to put a massive high-rise right in its face. People of all faiths - please help us stop this building in front of our treasured church."
When Stewart Coleman proposed a high-rise in front of City Hall, residents told City Council it was a bad idea.
Well, it's also a bad idea to put an even bigger high-rise directly in front of our beautiful Basilica.

More importantly, please EMAIL a letter to the editor, AND to City Council, asking them to watch this video and to rethink this bad plan.
