The big buzz in Asheville over the past few weeks is the effort to get Google to bring the ultra high speed gigabit fiber network to Asheville and put speeds 100x faster than what most people have into every home. This is huge! Not only from an internet customer perspective but having the Google fiber network of 78,000 homes all tied together at 100x speeds provides the soil for the seeds of innovation. Asheville will realize the fruits of that growth. This network will not only provide jobs for college and high school kids graduating but it will provide the capital to continue to fund the creative works of Asheville's artistic and non-profit community. This is the last week of a totally grassroots effort to get individual residents and even visitors to take 5-10 minutes and fill out an online application to nominate Asheville to receive the Google Fiber Network. And I am asking all the bloggers in Asheville to print a few lines asking their readers to help make this dream a reality.
