Make Asheville a City of Peace. Ask our City Council to consider resolution calling for de-escalation in Afghanistan

Since we heard that there were plans to surge troops in Afghanistan beginning late in 2009, Peacetown in Asheville has worked to urge our City Council to stand with us for de-escalating the war instead of escalating it. Please help us convince our City Council members that this is a local issue that robs our citizens and our grandchildren of much-needed funds for public services here. So far since 2001, according to the National Priorities Project, more than $57 million from Asheville taxpayers have been designated for this senseless war that is creating more terrorists with each drone attack that harms innocent children. This war has also brought death to more than 1,000 American troops. Uncounted numbers have suffered physical and psychological wounds that will impact them and their families for generations. Tell our City Council to stand up for Asheville, its taxpayers and its veterans.
Go to http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/ashevillians-against-afghanistan-war and sign our petition in support of such a resolution that calls on our NC elected representative call for a de-escalation of our Afghanistan occupation.
