Locomotivity - Asheville Coworking Space

I've been trying to get over to Locomotivity since it opened on March 30th of 2009. A few weeks ago I got word from Jose Ibarra, of Applied Solutions Group, Inc, that Locomotivity might have a podcasting studio in the works, and since I am working on a podcasting section, this news gave me a reason to visit.

For those who don't know, Locomotivity is a new coworking space located at 224 Broadway Street, the building formerly occupied by the Costume Shoppe. Locomotivity is the project of Lance Ball, a local web applications and software developer. I met Lance last fall, when we both were volunteers on the website committee for the Media Arts Project.

At that time Lance was still in the planning stages of developing a coworking space for local freelance website developers and other small and micro business owners.

For a better picture of what Locomotivity offers, here is a description directly from the source:

Get out of your bedroom office! Move beyond Starbucks and Mountain Java! Locomotivity is the place where you can go to have a solid afternoon cranking out code, hammering away at a blog post, designing a new logo, surfing the web, or writing that next article.

Locomotivity is a collaborative, creative, fun and professional shared work space for freelancers and small/micro business owners in and around Asheville, NC. At Locomotivity you'll find an energizing place to work where you are surrounded by other like-minded creatives and professionals. We bring people together who otherwise would be stuck in a basement office at home or at the local coffee shop.

During my visit last Thursday, Lance showed me the potential podcasting space, as well as the other amenities offered. Right now the podcasting space is unfinished, but the rest of the coworking space is operational.

I am looking forward to helping Lance make the podcasting space a reality, and I hope that AshevilleNow.com will be able to utilize this space to create some unique, informative, and entertaining audio content. If you are looking to get out of your home office or find a workspace were you don't feel obligated to buy a smoothie or expensive coffee drink every day then check out Locomotivity.

This is a great concept. Technology is wonderful but it can't replace the stimulation of working with and around other people. I think we "fuel" each other in our creative endeavors. Wonderful article!

Nice writeup - Locomotivity rocks! I wish I could quit my day job and work there...or better yet, get my employer to let me work there remotely. Alas...
