Local Businesses Create Marketing Council
An inspired group of local business leaders is forming the Marketing Council within the Black Mountain/Swannanoa Chamber of Commerce. Its first organizational meeting will be held at 8:30 am on Tuesday, June 2 in the Conference Room of the Chamber of Commerce at 201 E. State St. in Black Mountain.
Founding members include Debbie Wanser (C.W. Moose Trading Co.), Bill Sanderson (Black Mountain Quilts), June Vengoechea (Visions of Creation), Jody Hymes (New Earth), Sandy Rector (Bone-a-Fide Bakery & Pet Boutique), Don Farrow (Wisdom for Wellness), Maud Boleman (Black Mountain Studios), and Kim Hughes (White Horse Black Mountain).
In recent years, these business owners have worked extensively through Business to Business as officers and committee chairs. Now, they feel the time has come to put their ideas and energy to work exclusively through the Chamber of Commerce.
Debbie Wanser (C.W. Moose Trading Co, 2008-2009 President of Business to Business) says, "This past year Bill (Black Mountain Quilts) and I following up on merchant encouragement to replace the old B2B map. We worked with The Black Mountain News to create an up-to-date and innovative Black Mountain Shopping Guide. Any business can advertise in it. I want to build on this fresh approach to marketing with in the new the Marketing Council."
At its first meeting, the new Marketing Council will hold a brainstorming session on marketing and promotional needs for Black Mountain. A Chair and Vice-Chair will be elected, and the purpose and upcoming activities of the Marketing Council will be fine-tuned.
Jody Hymes (New Earth, 2007-2008 President of Business to Business) comments, "I think the Marketing Council can serve the interests of the local business community best. In these challenging economic times, businesses need to join forces. In the past, we've had great ideas, but not enough people-power to make them happen. I'm excited about working on promoting the Black Mountain with a larger pool of businesses and volunteers."
The Marketing Council is an entirely new structure within the Chamber. The first meeting offers an opportunity to get in on the ground floor in helping design its mission, goals, and activities.
