Kids Only Chocolate Fest at Terra Summer

January 30, 2010 - Once in a lifetime you might get a chance to make chocolates! Come make VALENTINE treats for a friend, your mom, or a sweetheart, and learn something about the chocolate you love so much!
Did you know that chocolate comes from small beans inside a pod that grows on trees?
...that the ancient Mayans considered chocolate to be a food of divine provenance?
...that once upon a time Mayan people even paid their TAXES in cocoa beans?
...that in some places the trade of cocoa has supported a huge and shameful slave and child labor trade?
...and that in addition to being delicious, chocolate is very good for you?
The class will be led by Asheville chocolatier Theresa Green, owner of UliMana Chocolates, and her team of artisan makers of delicious vegan, raw organic chocolates.
Theresa has worked with raw chocolate since it was introduced in 2005 and she discovered how it activated her creativity and made her feel more alert. She started working with honey and coconut oil to make the chocolate sweeter, and took her product to the Natural Foods Expo in Boston, where she met huge raw food leader David Wolfe. He loved her work and from there her business took off and has grown ever since.
January 30, 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Children ages 10 to 14, $25 per child; class is limited to 25 children
Terra Summer, 75 Bryson Road, Mills River. (Parents: Please drop your child off punctually!) To register for the class, please email Sybil Fix or call her at 828-782-7842. To learn more about Terra Summer please explore this site.
Come learn and have fun.
