Current Buncombe County Register of Deeds Drew Reisinger announced today he will seek election to the office in 2012.

"I pledge to continue to provide the high quality, efficient, innovative service that the people of Buncombe County deserve and have experienced during my tenure as Register of Deeds," Reisinger said. "I would be honored to be elected to continue to move this office forward."

Buncombe County Commission Chair David Gantt offered his support for Reisinger.

"I am excited to see that Drew is going to continue to provide leadership for this office," Gantt said. "In the short time that Drew has been in office, he has worked hard to bring in new technology, which is saving taxpayer dollars."

Service, stewardship, and sustainability have been hallmarks of Reisinger's leadership of the Register of Deeds Office, which manages vital records from birth and death certificates to property deeds.

By reducing his own salary, implementing new technology, and renegotiating vendor contracts, Reisinger has reduced the office's annual budget by over $238,500.

During the same period, Reisinger has implemented service innovations which include accepting credit and debit cards, secure eRecording software, and online marriage license applications.

Further advances include making Buncombe County the first Register of Deed's Office in the state to provide Spanish translation services in person, over the phone, and online.

The Buncombe County Democratic Party elected Reisinger to replace the retiring Register of Deeds, Otto DeBruhl, last February. Reisinger is a graduate of Appalachian State University. He and his wife live in West Asheville.

Adelaide Key and Maggie Smith of Asheville will host a Kickoff Event and Fundraiser for Reisinger's campaign on January 17. For more information, visit www.DrewforDeeds.com.
