Guice to Headline Asheville Comic Book Convention in May

Press release here from loyal reader Michael. I can't wait for this. I went to high school with Jackson "Butch" Guice, and have followed his career over the years. This is great news:
On May 15, 2010, the Asheville Art Museum will host FANATICON, a convention for fans of comic books, science fiction and fantasy. Headlining the event is acclaimed comic book artist and Asheville native Jackson "Butch" Guice.
Guice was born in Chattanooga, TN and grew up in Asheville. Since beginning his career, he has worked for such comic book giants as DC and Marvel, as well as the ground-breaking independent publisher, Dark Horse. He has taken on some of the world's most recognizable comic book titles in his work, including X-Factor, Birds of Prey and the biggest hero of them all, Superman. Currently, Guice is collaborating with industry luminaries Ed Brubaker and Bryan Hitch on Marvel's major publishing event, Captain America Reborn.
The organizers of FANATICON are understandably thrilled to have such a noteworthy special guest for their first convention. Event Coordinator Chance Whitmire said, "Butch Guice is a brilliant artist; his work is so dynamic and emotional and full of energy. He's a true master of visual storytelling."
As a special guest, Guice will be featured in a presentation on the day of the event, which will include audience Q and A and a limited autograph session. "He's working on the most talked-about comic book title of the year," Whitmire said. "It's a great opportunity for our community to interact with a major talent, whether you're a comic book fan or just appreciate really wonderful artwork."
In addition to Guice, FANATICON will feature numerous local comic book artists and illustrators, including Hope Larson, Evan Dahm, James E. Lyle and Edward Rowles, as well as area comic book retailers and dealers, such as Comic Envy and Pastimes.
But wait, there's more! FANATICON has announced a Poster Contest with a $250.00 cash prize and a Family Membership to the Asheville Art Museum. Rules are available at the website. www.fanaticon.org.
