Rockin' RiverFest 09: Rafting, Music and Fun on the River

Where can you celebrate summer with rafting on the French Broad River while enjoying great local music, food and beer and other fun activities? At the Rockin' RiverFest on Saturday August 1 at French Broad River Park in Asheville.

There's something for everyone at Rockin' RiverFest including the Raft Race, Kids' Parade, Music Showcase & Competition, local food and beer, vendors and artists tables, exciting arts performances and fun recreational activities. Support RiverLink's efforts to make the French Broad River watershed a place to live, work and play!

Raft race pushes off at 10am at Hominy Creek Park where families, businesses, school groups, community associations, non profits and church groups create and decorate their raft to float down the French Broad River with chances to win a prize from several categories including most creative, That Floats?, Fastest and Funniest. Hurry up - raft race registration ends Friday July 31st!

Festivities in French Broad River Park kick off at 11 am with the Kids' Parade beginning at 11:30am where youngsters up to 12 years old can decorate their bike, rollerblades or skateboard. Our surprise judges will award prizes to kids for their creativity and "green means of transportation." After the parade, kids of all ages can enjoy fun activities including face painting and hula hooping with Asheville's own MelMacPink in the Kids' Area.

The Music Showcase & Competition sponsored by 98.1 the River and the Musician's Workshop rocks on starting at noon with local area bands competing for People's Choice and Wild Wing's Choice.

Enjoy delicious summer fare and beer while enjoying live performances by Asheville Aerial Arts suspended from trees and MelMacPink, Asheville's Queen of Hula Hoops! Get your teams ready for some friendly competitive games of frisbee golf and cornhole!
