French Broad River Fishing Report - March 16th, 2011

After a rainy 2 weeks, the river is finally dropping down into a flow range low enough to get out and fish. Yeah! Color and clarity are pretty good already, and a few more dry and sunny days will mean its prime time for some early spring smallmouoth action. Weather forecasts have this week looking just that way, dry, sunny, and warmer. This time of year the best bet is to get out in the afternoon on sunny days. The water is still cold, so fish deep and as slow as you can in areas off the main current. Jigs and deep running crankbaits are the best presentation.
