French Broad River Fishing Report - July 3rd, 2012
This week the river has fished great even with record high temps. The key has been to avoid the mid-day period; smallmouth have been very active mornings and evenings. Afternoon storms in the forecast are a threat this week as they may stain the river. Use bright colored, scented, and noise making lures in light to medium stain conditions and switch to natural patterns as the river clears up. Try to avoid fishing in heavily stain water all together, as it is seldom productive. Hi, Chris,
I am hoping you can help me out or at least guide me in the right direction. I have a soon to be 7 year old son who would rather be fishing then doing anything in the world! He already has 7 poles and countless bait. When we get the opportunity to go to Bass Pro Shop, he is lost for hours in pure gratification! He says his goal in life is to become a professional fisherman. With him being the youngest of 5, he is the first to develop a pure love and adoration of a sport at such a young age. My challenge is finding fishing classes for children in our area. Do you know anyone or group that offers classes to young anglers? I know Sonny loves to fish, but to obtain greater knowledge that will carry him forever is so important now! This is a child who we took swimming at the Hemlocks, he found a old hook on the ground along with some fishing string and used bread for bait and actually caught fish! He astounded everyone around him and instead of swimming...he fished for six hours straight!
Thank you for your time,
Lisa
