French Broad River Fishing Report - February 22nd, 2012

Its been warm this winter, so we have been out fishing a little earlier than usual. The French Broad has been flowing a beautiful clear green recently, at levels that are on the low end of medium for this time of year. These conditions are good news for fishermen, allowing us on the river at a time that often is reserved for rafters and kayakers due to higher flows. Recent trips on the river have found smallmouth in deep pools off the main current, their normal place in late winter. Patience is key; bite rates are often low now but fish hooked will pay that off by being generally larger than summertime catches. Use grubs and deep diving lures and fish them slowly.
