French Broad River Fishing Report - 5/20/2009

The river is again rebounding well from all the rains last week. While stained, it is clear enough for quality fishing now and should stay that way for the weekend. The spawn is wrapping up and smallmouth are active again now. Summertime patterns should be used now, with smaller lures and more natural colors being the most effective. Little crankbaits and spinners worked great this week. The catch rate is up, too, with trips catching over 60 fish per outting. Smallmouth are holding on the edges of current and in slow current runs. Mid-morning and late afternoons have been fishing the best.
