Feng Shui and Mountain Landscapes

What is outside of your home or business has a great influence on the energy, or qi, inside. Very few of us live in flat areas in Western North Carolina. Our beautiful mountains have their effects on us when considered from a feng shui point of view.

Quite possibly many of us were first attracted to the area simply because the mountains are beautiful, green, and wooded rather than rough and rocky. They carry far better energy because this is so. In the same way, clear, clean water has positive qi, while polluted, stagnant water is a source of sha qi, or negative energy.

In classical, or Time-Space Feng Shui, there are three types of energy analyzed in sectors of a structure. The types are mountain energy, which affects health and relationships; water energy, which primarily affects wealth; and time energy, which can support (or not support) the other two.

Knowing the year a building was built and the direction it faces allows the creation of a chart that shows what is happening with qi in the building. The chart informs a practitioner about how the mountains, streams, roads, and neighboring buildings affect your home or business. Ideally, your closest, beautiful mountain is outside your home in an area where it is creating beneficial support for health and good relationships. It is also possible that it may be blocking positive energy that would better come from water in that direction.

Wherever the mountains are in relation to your home, there are ways to either enhance good effects or minimize more negative effects through landscaping. If a mountain is desirable in a direction where mountains are not present, a virtual mountain can be created with attractive berms or flowering shrubs. Similarly, water can be added through water features like ponds or fountains to attract wealth from an appropriate direction, even if natural water is not present there. It is important that the directions are tuned to your home's chart.

Slopes are another consideration relating to buildings. It is possible that wealth won't stay with you if the ground slopes steeply away outside your back door, depending on your chart. Corrections can be made for this with landscape solutions or other feng shui remedies.

The mountains of Western North Carolina are strong and enduring sources of healthy, harmonious energy. With feng shui, you can feel this presence in your home every day.
