I just wanted to highlight this upcoming event from our Calendar of Events. I had a great meeting with Jen Bowen during HATCHfest and I am excited to go and check out the opening on Friday...
Date(s): Friday, June 05, 2009 - Saturday, June 27, 2009 Time: 7 - 11 pm Phone: 828-423-5673 Admission: Free
After two solid years of dedication the local photographer Jen G. Bowen is proud to open the final exhibit of the 'Faces of Asheville' portrait documentary project. Initially started in July 2007, the project & the artist's studio were burglarized & destroyed in Aug 2007. Through local grants & incredible support from the Asheville community, Jen Bowen was able to start the project again in 2008 & photographed just under 350 participants from all walks of Asheville.
The exhibit will open June 5th at the Satellite Gallery downtown with a grand opening celebration starting at 7pm. The exhibit will continue to show until June 27th. The Faces of Asheville exhibit is free is should prove to be a remarkable display of the many types of incredible & diverse individuality that is celebrated amongst the greater Asheville community. All of the photos & research material gathered from participants will be donated to the UNC-A Special Collections City Archives in the late summer of 2009. The Faces of Asheville project is 501c3 sponsored by Arts2People.
