RiverLink visited Evergreen Community Charter School this week to teach the first graders about today's water quality issues. The students expressed their feelings about the river through our "River of Words and Art" lesson, which is tied to RiverLink's "Earth Day Art Contest". The annual contest takes place in the spring, and details will be announced as they are solidified.
The first graders got to see first-hand what happens to our river when pollutants from our watershed are washed into it through interacting with the Enviroscape, RiverLink's portable watershed model.
RiverLink has a long history with Evergreen Charter School. RiverLink installed a series of Best Management Practices (BMP's) as demonstration sites for local folks that included the installation of constructed wetlands and rain gardens that drain the school's parking lot and roof, which, in turn, teaches the children about sustainable building practices.
To view these and other BMP's RiverLink has installed throughout the watershed, click here.
