Ask Bubbi Advice Column - Monday September 28th 2009
Dear Bubbi,
My two boys (ages 2 & 3) are only 14 months apart and they fight constantly. I am exhausted from trying to intervene and get them to play nicely with each other. I work from home and lately I've gotten very little accomplished. I'm thinking of throwing in the towel and giving up my small home based business.
~Exhausted Mama
Dear Exhausted Mama,
Here's where an energetic teenager/mother's helper comes in handy. Why don't you hire someone to come by for a few hours in the afternoon and play with your 2 tetik (active) toddlers while you work. Another idea might be to swap "mommy time" with another mother or two in the neighborhood, each of you taking turns keeping the kids. Don't be too quick to give up that business. Before you know it, those two little ones will be off to school.
Dear Bubbi,
My younger sister has been going through some rough times emotionally and I want to help her by having her 8 year old son come live with me. I am single, self employed and I own a nice home. My problem is figuring out how to make the offer without insinuating that she is not stable enough to raise a child. I think if she had some time to get her life back on track, it would benefit both her and her son.
~Concerned Aunt
Dear Concerned Aunt,
I think you're a hochem (smart person) and a caring sister. My suggestion is to get together with your sister...just the two of you. Express to her how much you love her and how you want to be there for her during these challenging times. Tell your sister that you would love to have your nephew spend some time with you and stress that it would be a temporary living arrangement. I am sure she is very sensitive right now and how you approach the subject will make all the difference in the world. Best of luck!
