Dear Bubbi,

I want to quit my job, live in a small cabin in the woods that my grandfather left me and spend a year writing a novel. I haven't revealed my plans to anyone yet but I am already anticipating all the criticism I will get. Any suggestions on how to deal with it when it happens?

Why waste your time anticipating negativity? Obviously, you've thought this out and figured out how you'll survive while you're writing your novel. I don't think you have to answer to anyone but yourself. If someone gives you troier (grief) about your plans, don't even bother defending your decision. Wish them a wonderful year and go do your thing.

Dear Bubbi,

I love living in Asheville, but it's tough to find a decent paying job in the sales and service industry. I just moved here 4 months ago, but I'm seriously considering going back to Atlanta. Is it my imagination or is this a real problem in this area?

Dear No Job And Frustrated,

It's not your imagination and mentshen (folks) around here are very aware of it. My suggestion is to dress professionally and go "pound the pavement", dropping off your resume and/or applications in person. First impressions can make a huge difference. Don't be afraid to talk salary expectations with a prospective employer. You might be surprised to find out that the salary is open for negotiation. You won't know until you try.
