Ask Bubbi Advice Column - Monday May 17th 2010
Dear Bubbi,
I attended college in the area for the past 4 years and love it! Here's the problem...My parents always assumed I would move back home after I graduated. I'm from a small very conservative southern town and I have no desire to live there anymore. How can I tell them without hurting their feelings.
~Asheville Lover
Dear Asheville Lover,
I'm assuming that you are going to pursue a career now that college is completed. One suggestion is to look for a job in the area. If you find one, you can tell your parents that you love the area and want to stay and work here. Eventually, you will have to talk to them about your lack of interest in moving back home. I know they will be disappointed but what you are describing is very typical, especially at your age. Rather than insulting your little town, let them know how excited you are about living in Asheville. Tell them you look forward to their visits!
Dear Bubbi,
I want to get married but my boyfriend doesn't and says he won't even think about it for another 10 years. We are both 19. Should I break up with him?
~Anxious To Be A Bride
Dear Anxious To Be A Bride,
You are both very young and you're probably scaring the daylights out of this guy. My opinion...Slow down and just enjoy being with each other. Marriage is a huge step and not something that you should commit to without a lot of serious thought. If you love this guy, shelf the topic for a few years until you have a little more life experience under your belt.
