Ask Bubbi

Dear Bubbi,

My girlfriend has a 2 year old child from a previous relationship. I have no problem with this but my Mother harps on it continuously and it drives me nuts. She says she doesn't want me" burdened" with the responsibility of a kid that is not mine. I'm 22 and I think that should be my choice. My girlfriend has nothing to do with her son's Father and he has never expressed interest in his son. I enjoy spending time with her son and don't consider him a burden.

~Playing Dad And Enjoying It

Dear Playing Dad And Enjoying It,

What a b'rucha (blessing) that a young man like you wants to be part of this little boy's life. I see nothing wrong with this relationship and think the problem might be your mother's perception of what she thinks is happening. Have you given your Mother the opportunity to get to know your girlfriend and her son? Let your Mother see you in action and I believe she'll quickly figure out that you can handle the responsibility. Alleviate her concerns by allowing her into your world!

Dear Bubbi,

I'm a trim 60 year old guy who loves the outdoors and exercises on a daily basis. I've met this full figured woman whose idea of exercise is a walk in the mall. I really like this lady but wonder if our differences in lifestyles will end up being a problem. As far as the rest of our relationship is concerned, we are 100% compatible. What are your thoughts Bubbi?

~Outdoor Lover

Dear Outdoor Lover,

Where is it written that couples have to have EVERYTHING in common. My husband is good at every sport and I am the queen of klutziness but we have lots of good times together. What I suggest is...Find a fun indoor physical activity that you both can enjoy. What about taking Salsa dance lessons or maybe joining a bowling league? If you truly want this relationship to work, be creative and explore new options! After reading your last sentence, my thoughts are...Enjoy your relationship with this zaftik (voluptuous) woman...She sounds like a good catch!
