Tomorrow the Goody Clancy team, who paid $170,000 to collect, synthesize, and present the work of the Advisory Team, will present it's Final Draft Downtown Master Plan (DTMP) to City Council. The plan is a result of 5,000 hours of volunteers' time and an enormous amount of input from every corner of downtown. Click here to read the whole thing. Two weeks from tomorrow, on May 26, City Council will hold a public hearing on the Plan. Between now and then there's going to be a lot of wrangling over this vision for Asheville.

Here at Scrutiny Hooligans, I'll be offering up a multi-part series on the DTMP. The Plan has seven parts, and I'll spend time with each of them. As with any major endeavor, there are positives and negatives in this plan. I hope to spend the next couple of weeks examining it piece by piece and in toto.

If you can't make it to the City Council meeting tomorrow, you might give the presentation a watch on the City Channel. If you can't do that, then read the DTMP here.

Staff recommends that City Council: "discuss the plan at a meeting in June, at which time the Council can refine their thoughts about the plan, establish areas of general support, and direct staff to come back with any additional information they wish to see regarding specific elements of the Plan."
