Asheville Playback Theatre announces Sweet Sixteenth Season

An audience member tells a story from their life, and actors "play it back" on the spot, using movement, words and music. It's spontaneous, unpredictable and creative. Some improv settles for laughter; Playback aims to honor and enhance the teller's experience.

The audience at a Playback performance not only contributes the "material" for the actors, they complete the circle for the storytellers. Their engaged witnessing elevates the collective experience from the personal to the universal.

When Playback is invited into specific settings- a classroom, a prison, a shelter or any place where a concern or issue is shared-the performance becomes an opportunity to hear multiple voices and perspectives. Those whose stories are often not heard are welcomed. New insights, relationships and understanding can follow.
