Welcome to our First Newsletter:

We had a successful first-ever AICFF, Asheville International Children's Film Festival in November 2009. As either an attendee, sponsor, or partner, you are receiving our very first newsletter which will keep you informed of exciting AICFF events and opportunities for 2010 and a reflection on the 2009 festival. Thank you for being a part of our first children's film festival. Up to date news can also be found at our Facebook Group and Twitter page.

We Would Like to Thank "You and the Community":

AICFF would like to thank all of you who came to screen the films at Asheville Pizza and Brewing and at Cinebarre. The big part of the success of the film festival was due to the many companies, sponsors, donors, and volunteers who gave generously in donations of time, money, and support.

First and foremost we would like to thank the Northwest Film Forum for providing such outstanding films and curator Elizabeth Sheperd for choosing a selection of fine films. We would also like to thank Little Pearls, an inspirational film company and our non-profit umbrella. Thank you Linda McLean, Exceutive Director of Little Pearls for being the guiding light for our festival.

Festival Review:

The festival featured 70 films from 25 countries. We had 250 students from eight schools at our weekday school screenings and 750 children and families at our weekend screenings. The comments that were shared included:

  • What a great idea to have a festival just for families.
  • Where did you find these films, they are great.
  • How do we volunteer for next year?
  • This is the first movie experience for my daughter and she loved it.
  • My students listened to the dialogue, this was the first time they listened so intently.
  • Wow, my students applauded at the end of the film.

Film Festival Expands in 2010

AICFF is growing with expanded dates and fun activities. The festival dates for 2010 are November 1-14. The planned activities to date are: press lunch, opening night gala, school field trips, pancake breakfast, costume parade, Movie Magic Workshops, public screenings and a special film competition for children (ages 5-12) of WNC.

Details of the specific activities and added venues will be coming soon.

The Family Support Network of WNC is Joining AICFF

A Program of Mission Children's Hospital, the Family Support Network of WNC is an organization with a mission of enhancing the lives of children of WNC with or at risk for special needs by providing support and information to the families who care for them and by encouraging parent and professional collaboration in the design and delivery of services for these families. A special festival within the festival will be held for these families and the public.

Personal Note from the Artistic Director: Tim Arem

Our goal for the festival in 2010 is to expand our mission which is to provide families with value affirming culturally diverse cinema. By using media as a tool, the goal is to stimulate critical thinking and to promote intelligent dialogue through the introduction of inspiring stories, exhilarating adventures and pure cinematic joy. Thank you for being a part of this.
