French Broad River Fishing Report - 8/25/2010

The river was stained pretty badly all this past week and didn't fish very well at all. Catch rates were low, 10 or less mostly, due to this lack of water clarity. Going forward, the weather pattern is forecast to be drier over the next 10 days. The river has already dropped down to normal flows for this time of year and is clearing some. Read more...

Students throughout Western North Carolina can get a leg up in the highly competitive college admissions market and the quest for strong scores on the SAT and ACT college exams by taking advantage of a free practice test being offered at the end of August. The A.C. Reynolds PTSO, in conjunction with Kaplan Test Prep, the nation's oldest and largest provider of test preparation and admissions services, is offering a Free Combination Practice Test for SAT and ACT to all area high school students. French Broad River Fishing Report - 8/18/2010

River levels were unpredictable this week. It becomes more difficult to read the river and make the correct call about where and how to fish when the flow swings 50%+ overnight. Still, we managed to have solid efforts all week. Catch rates varied with the water clarity, from about 20 to 50 smallmouth per trip with a few nice 16 inchers in the mix. Read more...

2nd Annual TEDxAsheville Conference Selects Orange Peel for 2010, Announces Speakers, Begins Registration

Online registration for the 2010 TEDxAsheville conference, to be held at the Orange Peel on Sunday, August 29, began on July 19th. This year's speaker lineup includes Last American Man Eustace Conway, and multi-percussionist, composer and educator River Guerguerian. Tourism Officials Award $2.25 Million to Community Projects

The Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority (BCTDA) announced today that it is awarding more than $2.25 million to three community projects through its Tourism Product Development Fund (TPDF). Funding will assist with construction of projects that are expected to further enhance the community while also driving more overnight hotel stays and pumping additional dollars into the local economy. French Broad River Fishing Report - 7/28/2010

The Asheville area has had thundershowers most afternoons recently. The river has a stain now, but not too much to fish. Still, flow levels are about 60% of average for this time of year even with the storms. Smallmouth are active in the mornings and evenings, avoid mid-day (12-3) if you can. Read more...
